Brightening Up An Interior Design

With the winter months around the corner and the nights pulling in, it’s a good idea to take a closer look at our interior spaces to plan how to get the most out of them, even on dark gloomy days. A well-thought out lighting scheme is a great help in creating a bright welcoming environment, especially given the huge choice of lighting designs available and today’s modern LED technology. 

Whether it’s an office, leisure space or private home, the best way to create a well-lit, inviting space is to layer the lighting. By varying the lighting in a room, you can create little pockets and pools of light which create flexibility depending on the level of illumination needed at a particular time.

Often the biggest mistake is made by thinking all one needs is a single overhead light for a room, but in order to accomplish a warm, welcoming space, you need to embrace the whole range of lighting sources available. The more lighting fixtures you have, the cosier the space will feel. For example, you might want to consider combining decorative lighting with LED lighting strips for a design that’s spot on in terms of both the look and the functionality, as well as providing useful layers of light. Light and bright walls are more reflective, making a space feel open and airy, which helps maximize the effect created by natural light.

 If you have access to natural light, bringing it into your home through large windows will instantly connect the room with the outdoors, no longer limiting your space. Use sheer window coverings, or pull them back completely, to allow more light in. If the view is bad, put plants or flowers near the windows and use lamps to brighten the space.
